No. 20 Canadian General Hospital, R.C.A.M.C.

England, October 1944

 

[Original Panorama Photograph]. Pirbright, Surrey: The Service Photo Co., 1944. Very good. 8" x 29.5" (20.3 x 75 CM) original panoramic B/W photograph. Creases at both side ends of photograph. A few small stains else is in excellent condition. Border surrounding image. An interesting Canadian military photograph.

 

Image depicts No. 20 of the Canadian General Hospital Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during World War II (October 1944). The men and women are shown in six long rows with a few members sitting beneath. They all wear the formal army uniform including beret. Three drums at other instruments are piled up at their feet in the center. A brick building is visible in the background.

 

The Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC) was an administrative corps of the Canadian Army. The Militia Medical Service was established in 1899. The Militia Medical Service was redesignated the Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1904. The Canadian Army Medical Corps was redesignated the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps on 3 Nov 1919. When the Army, Royal Canadian Navy, and Royal Canadian Air Force were merged in 1968 to form the Canadian Forces, the Royal Canadian Dental Corps and Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps were deactivated and merged with their Naval and Air Force counterparts to form the Dental Branch (Canadian Forces) and the Canadian Forces Medical Service of the Canadian Forces Health Services Group (CF H SVCS GP).

Slight wear and soiling to edges with a small tear near the top left corner. Slight rippling; else the image is clean and clear. Border surrounding image. A great historical photograph of the R.C.A.M.C.

Royal Air Force. Course 34, School of Aeronautics, Royal Air Force

Toronto June 6th 1918

 

[Original Historical Panoramic Photograph].Victoria St., Toronto: Panoramic Camera Co., 1918. Very good. Original panoramic B/W photograph mounted on thick card. 9.5" x 43" (24.15 x 109.22 cm). Yellowish fading mainly around edges. Slight wear/bumping to very edges and corners; photograph displays only a few light creases. An interesting historical image.

 

Image depicts Course 34 of the Royal Air Force (a branch of the British Armed Forces), who were trained in Canada only a few months before the end of the first world war. Six long rows of men are shown sitting with a dog in the middle front. The men are dressed in formal uniform. An elegant building is visible in the background with grass in the foreground. This image was taken only a couple of months after the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force (depicted here)

Three long rows of men are shown seated. The men are dressed in formal uniform with different hats depending on their rank. An elegant building is visible in the background with grass in the foreground. This image was taken only one month after the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force (depicted here)

In vintage 1.5" wooden frame which suits the image well. Wire hanger at the back.
