New Westminster, British Columbia Unknown Photographer
[Original Photograph].New Westminster, B.C.: , [circa 1865]. Very good. Original photograph mounted on thin card. Image measures 6.8 X 8.75" (17.25 X 22.25 CM) with 7.25 X 10.8" (18.5 X 27.4 CM) card. Photograph has some light scattered foxing, mild soiling and is slightly faded (mainly near either side edge). The card also has a small amount of foxing and soiling; with wear and a few chips to edges (the largest in the bottom left corner), however, these do not effect the image. "New Westminster, British Columbia is written on the back in ink". A nice historical image.
A waterfront view of the city showing three steamboats at dock. Burned/cleared forest is visible behind the town. A rare early view of the city that was at the time the capital of the Colony of British Columbia. New Westminster was mainland British Columbia's largest city until it was surpassed by Vancouver in the early 20th century.
